Fortunately, HP may have just come out with your next laptop. The HP 15-dy2024nr is an 11th Generation Intel Core i5-1135G7-powered notebook that also includes Intel Iris Xe Graphics and 8GB RAM as well as a 256 GB SSD amongst its most impressive features, all set with a very competitive price point.
Today we tackle everything there is to know about this laptop as we dive into our review of the HP 15-dy2024nr.
Who's it for?
Students => This laptop is great for students and their everyday homework, projects and, research.
Programmers => This machine may be suitable for programmers thanks to its powerful processor and enough RAM to tackle standard programming tasks.
Business owners => Due to its lightweight design, the HP 15-dy2024nr would be great for business owners on the go who need a powerful and reliable machine.
Who's it NOT for?
Gamers => The lack of a dedicated graphics card means that this machine is not really suitable for gamers.
Heavy users => If you're someone who likes to have multiple programs running at the same time, or if you tend to use your laptop for more than 8 hours a day, then you may need something with a bit more power, such as the Acer Nitro 5 AN517-54-77KG.
HP 15-dy2024nr Laptop Review
Display and Design
The HP 15-dy2024nr comes with a rather standard Full HD IPS LED screen, which measures in at 15.6 inches diagonally and sports a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.
This is a decent display but nothing to write home about.
In terms of the design, again we're looking at a pretty run-of-the-mill work. Specifically, we've got a standard brushed metal look on the keyboard rest and a standard silver tone for the chassis of the laptop, which is plastic by the way.
The keyboard isn't backlit and the coloring of the keys is a dark grey so it's not really the best laptop to use in low lighting environments.
As for the trackpad, it's fine, spacious enough to work comfortably though lacking a dedicated fingerprint reader.
Performance
The display and the design are fine but it's pointless to have a decent design and solid screen if the laptop is essentially a paperweight. This is fairly common amongst entry-level notebooks, with many entry-level notebooks packing sub-par processors and limited RAM.
However, such is not the case with the HP 15-dy2024nr, which features a powerful 11th generation Core i5 processor, which will allow you to work comfortably with a number of CPU-intensive programs. With said processor, you can expect a laptop that can handle programs such as Photoshop and Virtual Machines with ease.
Moving onto the graphics department, we've got an Intel Iris XE Graphics card which is solid for standard usage but not a graphics card we would recommend if you are planning to use this laptop for gaming purposes or even for video editing, where you'd be better off with a dedicated graphics card instead.

RAM is limited in this case to 8 GB. However, you'll be happy to know you can easily upgrade it rather easily with a DDR4 3200 MHz 260pin Unbuffered RAM module of 8 GB. In any case, if you're planning to give the laptop a relatively normal usage then 8 GB should suffice for most usage cases. Of course, if you're planning to edit videos or pictures then the more RAM the better. On this front, we have developed a tutorial that shows you step-by-step how to go about upgrading the RAM.
If you're a power user who likes to have a zillion tabs open at a time then you'll immensely benefit from upgrading to at least 16 GB of RAM by replacing the two 4 GB modules that come on this laptop. Additionally, if you are prone to having a billion tabs open you could also be interested in knowing that these days we can not only create groups of tabs on Chrome but also save them.
Finally, storage on this notebook is limited to a 256 GB SSD unit. That's not the biggest storage unit in town but you can also upgrade the storage fairly easily. Specifically, you can swap out the NVMe SSD unit that comes with this laptop to one that has a larger capacity, allowing you to also boost performance. We've written up a tutorial guiding you through the process of upgrading the NVMe if that's something you'd be interested in pursuing.
What about the battery life? What connectivity options does it have?
One of the HP 15-dy2024nr's most impressive features has to be its 8-hour battery life. This is thanks to the notebook's 41Wh 3-cell Lithium-Ion Battery. Granted, 8 hours is not the longest battery life we've seen out there but it is still a very respectable number.
Having said that, I'd like to remind you guys that your mileage may vary and when a manufacturer makes battery life claims it's safest to assume that the laptop will perform 20% or so below the advertised number. In this case that leaves us with a little over 6 hours, which is still a rather respectable battery life.
Connectivity-wise, we've got a couple of standard USB Type-A ports, a standalone USB Type-C port, an HDMI port, microphone jack, and an SD card reader, with the latter being increasingly hard to find these days on most laptops.
What Are Customers Saying?
Conclusion: Should I buy the HP 15-dy2024nr?
Wrapping up this review of the HP 15-dy2024nr, we've gotta say that we're looking at a pretty solid laptop overall. Sure enough, it's not going to win any awards in terms of innovation. However, it does feature a pretty balanced set of specs for the price.
In particular, we like the powerful CPU, the 8-hour battery life, and the spacious trackpad. That said, if you're looking for a good entry-level laptop that'll handle most usage cases with ease then the HP 15-dy2024nr should satisfy your needs.
