Within the mid-range laptop category, there are quite a lot of options to choose from. You've got your more basic models that implement a Core i3 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and call it a day with a budget price and you've got your more comprehensive models with top-notch processors, 16 GB of RAM, and a high price tag that while still being part of the mid-range falls dangerously close to the "high-end" in terms of pricing.
Generally speaking, it's a game of compromises. That's why when we first laid eyes on the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS we were so surprised. There don't seem to be any significant compromises with this laptop.
The screen is Full HD, the processor is a solid AMD Ryzen 5 5500U, RAM is in the adequate 8 GB realm - and can be upgraded -, storage is respectable and battery life is solid. Couple this with a decent graphics card that also allows for some light gaming as well as photoshop work and you've got yourself a killer notebook that's ready to become one of the best-selling laptops of the year, especially given its competitive price.
Without further ado, today we take a closer look at this model as we review the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS.
Who's the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS for?
=>Students: The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS is a great notebook for students as it offers excellent value for its price. It's got a powerful processor, upgradeable RAM, and sufficient storage that should be more than enough to handle your schoolwork.
=>Professionals: This notebook is also a great option for professionals as it's got the specs to handle your daily workload without any issues. The upgradeable RAM is also a nice touch in case you need more power down the line.
=>everyone else: The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS is also a great notebook for anyone else who's looking for an affordable and powerful notebook. It's got a great set of specs for the price and should be more than enough for most users.
Design, Display & Keyboard on the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS
There's nothing particularly new or innovative as far as the design of the IdeaPad 3 is concerned. It comes in a dark blue color named "Abyss Blue" and features straight lines with a minimalistic design. The laptop isn't particularly thin, weighing in at more than 4 pounds which means it's a bit less portable than we would've liked. However, its compact build make it seem as if you're not carrying around 4 pounds.
The display is well within what we're used to seeing in the mid-range. On that front we've got a nice 14-inch diagonal with an IPS panel that features a Full HD resolution (1920 by 1080 pixels).
We like 14 inches as it seems to be a nice compromise between the 13 and 15-inch formats. Also, thanks to the thin bezels featured on the 82KT00GVUS the size is far closer to your standard 13-inch laptop than it is to the 15-inch models.
A quick reminder that this is not a high-end notebook and that becomes quickly apparent when you look at the display. Is it good? Yes. Is it remarkable? No.
Finally, the keyboard is nice, offers good ergonomics with a solid key-travel distance but lacks when it comes to backlighting - it doesn't have any -. If a backlit keyboard is important for you then you might want to consider a model such as the recently reviewed Lenovo Flex 5 14 (82HU00JWUS) which features a backlit keyboard with a convertible design and the same CPU.
It should also be pointed out that there's a fingerprint reader on this notebook. Specifically, it's located on the power button which is quite frankly our position of choice for this type of biometric readers since it saves you time.
Performance on the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS
While the design doesn't really present any significant innovations, what we loved most about the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS is the fact that it houses some excellent internal components.
Starting off with the CPU we've got a powerful hexa-core AMD Ryzen 5 5500U processor clocking at a base of 2.1 GHz and reaching a maximum of 4 GHz when pressed.
Couple this with 8 GB of the latest generation DDR4 RAM and a solid 256 GB of NVMe SSD storage and you've got yourself a combo of key specs that's ready to tackle your daily workload without so much as breaking a sweat.
Specifically, this notebook is well suited for anything ranging from streaming videos, editing spreadsheets, working with multiple tabs open, running virtual machines, and even doing some front-end programming with an emphasis on graphics thanks to its more than decent integrated graphics card.
What's more, the fact that you can upgrade the RAM here switching the 4 GB of SODIMM RAM unit for up to 8 GB of DDR4 3200MHz SODIMM to a total of 12 GB worth of RAM means that you never have to fear your device becoming obsolete because of a lack of sufficient RAM to run all your programs.
Overall, we can confidently say that this set of specs completely knocked our socks off as you don't really see this kind of specs on a laptop that's so competitively priced.
What Are Customers Saying?
Overall, the customer reviews indicate a positive impression of the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82kt00gvus. Customers appreciate its performance, speed, and suitability for gaming. Many users find it to be a good buy, with positive comments about its screen brightness, colors, and gaming capabilities.
The laptop is often praised for being fast and capable of handling various tasks, including gaming and programming. Users mention that it can run games like Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, League of Legends, and Minecraft smoothly. The laptop's lightweight design and good battery life make it suitable for students and those on the go.
Some customers mention minor issues, such as the backlit keyboard not working, the laptop being a fingerprint magnet, or the trackpad occasionally being unresponsive. Battery life is a common concern, with a few users stating that it drains quickly, especially when performing intensive tasks or gaming.
Despite these minor drawbacks, customers generally consider the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82kt00gvus to be a good value for the price. It is praised for its performance, sleek design, and suitability for everyday tasks, such as writing, web surfing, and office work.
Battery Life & Connectivity Options
Moving onto the battery life of the 82KT00GVUS we have to say we would've liked to see better numbers but overall we're satisfied. Specifically, you can expect roughly 6-7 hours worth of juice out of this laptop.
That's in line with what you get from notebooks such as the Acer Swift 3 SF314-43-R2YY but isn't as good as the 12-hours promised by the brands most popular convertible laptop; the Lenovo Flex 5 14 (82HU00JWUS). However, don't take our word for it as mileage may vary and customers have a lot to say on this topic on the customer reviews.
Connectivity-wise you've got your standard dual-band WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth support, as well as a few USB Type-A ports, an HDMI port, SD card reader and audio jack. Being a compact notebook there's no ethernet port
Wrapping up: Is the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS worth buying?
All in all, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82KT00GVUS is a great notebook that offers an excellent set of specs for its price tag. If you're not looking for anything too fancy in terms of design and just want a powerful and affordable notebook then this is one of the best options in the market.
It features a powerful processor, upgradeable RAM, sufficient storage for most users, and a very respectable battery life that allows you to commute with this laptop without having to constantly worry about having a power outlet available.
A great option for anyone from students to professionals and everything in between.
