The MSI GF63 gaming laptop lineup is undoubtedly one of MSI's most promising lines. These laptops come equipped with high-end CPU's, a solid graphics card, and respectable storage options. All of this at a very competitive price point. However, as it happens with most affordable gaming laptops, they don't pack a lot of memory when they land on our shelves.
Fortunately for us, this is something that can be quickly and swiftly remedied in less than 5 minutes, opening up a world of possibilities. Today that's exactly what we're going to do as we walk you through the process to upgrade the RAM on the MSI GF63. A step-by-step guide to make sure you can increase the memory on your laptop and benefit from all that comes with that.

How To Upgrade The Memory/RAM On The MSI GF63 Step By Step
For this upgrade, you're going to need two things; a screwdriver and a non-metallic prying tool. If you're a guitar player you might have a guitar pick on hand, this is generally what people use when opening up a laptop. In any case, you want to make sure you're not using anything metallic to pry open your laptop. Additionally, you could also consider using anti-static gloves.
Step 1: Before doing anything you need to make sure that the GF63 is turned off and doesn't have any accessories connected to it. Once that's out of the way, place the laptop on its back and start removing all the screws that connect the bottom case to the body of the laptop like so:
Step 2: When you've removed all the screws you're going to grab your prying tool and you're going to start to separate the bottom case from the rest of the laptop. When you come across a clip you'll pull outwards to slowly release the bottom case.
Once that's done you should have access to your laptop's internal components.
Step 3: Locate the RAM slots. They're located right next to the laptop's fans. If you're going to swap out the onboard RAM and use two new modules (as we would recommend) then you need to remove the onboard RAM by pulling outward on the clasps located on the sides of the RAM slots. The following image serves as an illustration of this, the image is of another computer but the mechanics are the same:
Step 4: The RAM module will be released at a 45-degree angle. Remove it from the slot at the same angle. Once the old module has been removed you're going to go ahead and introduce the new modules in the same 45-degree fashion. Make sure that the pins on the module and the pins on the slot align. It should look something like this:
Step 5: Once the module has been introduced at a 45-degree angle you're going to go ahead and press down on it gently but firmly. You'll hear a "clicking" sound, that's the sound the slot makes when the clasps located on the sides grab onto the module. That sound signifies that you've successfully inserted the RAM module.
Step 6: Place the bottom case back and re-attach the screws you removed at the beginning of this tutorial. Turn your GF63 on and head over to "Device Specifications". Under "Installed RAM" you should be able to see the new amount of RAM your laptop has.
And that's it! You have successfully upgraded the RAM on the MSI GF63 and you'll be able to perform much more RAM-intensive tasks. This upgrade will benefit you in anything from gaming to rendering videos and doing some graphic design.
